athenafit Intern McKayla Denning caught up with Barre Instructor and Mommy-to-be Bethany and found out some wonderful things to share with us...
Q: Well first of all, congratulations! How far along are you? How has athenafit effected your pregnancy thus far?
A: “I am (currently) 37 weeks pregnant! So I will soon find out what it will be like to balance those two different roles. :) I am excited that I have athenafit barre as an outlet though to get out of the house and do something for myself post pregnancy.”
Q: How does your wonderful husband feel about your passion for the barre?
A: “My husband loves the fact that my job keeps me active, healthy, and fit. I'm so much happier. He works during the morning/afternoon so my job at athenafit doesn't rob me of any time spent with him. I still have time to do all the things I love to do for my husband: cook, clean the house, do the laundry, etc."
Q: Did you have any prior experience with dance or gymnastics?
A: “Yes, I found my first love in dancing. I started dancing at the age of 5 and trained in ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, contemporary, hip hop, and modern. After years of vigorous ballet training, I was promoted to a full time position with a professional touring Christian ballet company based in Jackson, Mississippi. On average, I traveled with them about 6 months out of the year and got to perform overseas once or twice a year. I danced with the company for 7 years and loved every minute of it! I am currently an instructor with them and teach our professional trainee interns in ballet and contemporary dance classes.”
Q: When did you start barre and what made you choose to call athenafit your home?
A: “I started in March of 2015, I had recently gotten married and was retiring from dancing professionally full time and wanted to try something else that would keep me active. I had a few friends that were barre instructors at the time with other barre studios and told me all about the benefits of barre and how much they enjoyed it. The environment is what drew me to athenafit, it's so light and welcoming. I have never felt intimidated or judged. All of the instructors are genuinely there to encourage and help you achieve a better, stronger, and healthier you. It's easy to get lost in the crowd during a fitness class but at athenafit the instructors are persistent in assisting you and accommodating to what your body needs and they actually encourage you by name during the class!
Q: What is your favorite athenafit exercise?
A: “80 second forearm plank!!! You can actually FEEL your body getting stronger every time you do it!”
Q: How do you feel after an athenafit barre class?
A: “I feel great. The endorphins are sky rocketing and I feel like I am ready to conquer the day! It's always better to be sore than sorry!! I never regret taking a barre class!”
Q: What is one of your biggest guilty pleasures?
A: I have to get my weekly 10-minute dose of Keeping Up with the Kardashians. And of course, chocolate chip cookies, you can never forget the cookies!”
Q: Any encouraging words you would like to leave readers with?
A: “God blessed us with the ability to take care of the bodies He has given us. Take advantage of the ways you can do that at athenafit! You won't regret it.”
